Designing an Open Modular Experimental Drive Train

The objective of project OMEx-DriveTrain is to create a modular electric mobility platform, which supports the validation and verification of software and hardware components in electro mobility as a hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) und software-in-the-loop (SiL) platform in the development process of model-based systems engineering (MBSE). Standards-compliant product development, which guarantees quality assurance spread across various partners, is a key element that all participants in a vehicle development process must agree to.

 

Starting Point

The transition to electric mobility has brought new, innovative vehicle concepts and solutions, which spawn completely new system integrators through reconfigured supply chains. The digital transformation and Industry 4.0 enable this flexibility, but at the same time, the growing complexity creates new challenges in development and production. Standards-compliant product development, which guarantees quality assurance spread across various partners, is a key element that all participants in a vehicle development process must agree to. To stay competitive in a global environment and be able to bring new products to the market, open standards are needed, as well as tools that can be readily shared.

Our Solution

The objective of project OMEx-DriveTrain is to create a modular electric mobility platform, which supports the validation and verification of software and hardware components in electro mobility as a hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) und software-in-the-loop (SiL) platform in the development process of model-based systems engineering (MBSE). The platform consists of a drivetrain with motor, battery and power electronics, plus a control unit structure. Configuration, test management and recording of measurement values, as well as the provision of test stimuli are integrated in the MSBE’s toolchain. The system can also be used for teaching, and as a demonstration platform for presentations in trade fairs, for example.
